What are Cookies

Cookies are small files that are saved and stored on your PC, tablet or smartphone when you visit web pages. Cookies are used for your convenience e.g. to customise a site to meet your needs, and for statistical purposes. Most often a cookie comprises the domain name of their original website, time of storage in the device and a unique number.

1. Cookies are used to:

  1. customize the content of the web pages of the site for the user preferences and to optimize the use of the web pages, in particular these files allow to identify the device of the website user and properly display the website tailored to the website user's individual needs,

  2. generate statistical data to better understand how the website users use the web pages, which allows to improve their structure and content,

  3. maintain the session of the website user (after logging in), so that the user does not need to retype the login and password on every page of the website,

  4. present the user with advertising content that is tailored to the user's interests.

  5. integrate the website with social networking sites

2. The website can use the following types of cookies:

  1. “essential” cookies enable the use the services available within the website, i.e. authentication cookies used for services that require authentication on the website,

  2. cookies used to provide security, i.e. by detecting authentication abuse on the website,

  3. cookies that enable the collection information about the method of using the web pages of the website,

  4. “functional” cookies that allow to “remember” the user's settings and to personalize the user's interface, i.e. the selected language or region of the user, font size, website appearance, etc.,

  5. “advertising” cookies that allow to provide the user with advertising content more tailored to the user's interests.

3. The level of protection against cookies can be set in the web browser – it is even possible to block cookies entirely. This increases the level of security and data protection, but can also disable certain features, e.g. logging into your email account.

How to disable cookies in your browser?

  • Google Chrome

Click the menu (in the top-right corner), Settings > Show Advanced Settings. In the “Privacy” section click the Content Settings button. In the ”Cookies” section you can configure the following cookie settings:

Keep cookies and site data by default until the browser is closed

Make exceptions for cookies from specific websites or domains

  • Internet Explorer 6.0 i 7.0

In the browser menu (top-right corner): select Tools> Internet Options> Privacy, and click Sites. Use the slider to set the desired level, and confirm by pressing OK.

In the browser menu select: Tools> Options> Privacy. Check the Firefox box: “Use custom settings”.

  • Opera

In the browser menu select: Tools> Preferences> Advanced.

Cookies are accepted if the Cookies box is checked.

  • Safari

In the Safari drop-down menu select Preferences and click the Security icon. Then selected the desired security level in the “Accept Cookies” section.
